Q. Will the treatments provide permanent results?
A. Yes! Electrolysis is the OLDEST and a long-proven method of permanent hair removal. Plucking, waxing, sugaring, threading and shaving, which have been around forever, provide no level of permanence. Of the newer hair removal methods, only laser can provide a permanent reduction in hair growth. Electric tweezers, transdermal methods, mechanical epilators, and microwaves do not provide any level of permanence. Why not ask your doctor?
Q. What causes unwanted hair?
A. Unwanted hair can develop as a result of many different causes. Most commonly, it is a simple matter of heredity. That being the case, your treatments can begin immediately. Often, though, there are medical reasons. The most typical of which is a hormonal imbalance. If there is a medical basis for your excess hair, that condition would have to be brought under control before the full benefits of your hair removal treatments can be experienced. The only way to be certain is to seek out the advice of a trained professional. While an electrologist cannot diagnose a medical condition, they are trained to know when a client should seek out the input of a physician. It is important that clients be aware of the root cause of their unwanted hair.
Q. How does laser hair removal work?
A. Skin contains melanocytes (cells which produce melanin). Melanin is what causes the coloration of hair and the pigmentation of skin. The hair root is surrounded by melanocytes. The laser hair removal device is designed to target the melanin, which absorbs the laser energy, and produce a thermal (heating) effect. The heat from the melanin is transferred to the adjacent cells of the hair follicle. After several treatments, this heating process will debilitate the follicle. (Also see the page on how hair removal works).
Q. How is hair removal accomplished by electrolysis?
A. Using special equipment, the electrologist quickly directs a tiny impulse into the hair follicle, destroying the follicle's ability to produce another hair. (Also see the page on how electrolysis works).
Q. How long has electrolysis been practiced?
A. Electrolysis was developed by a physician over 125 years ago. It has a proven history of superior performance over the long term as compared to any other method of hair removal.

Q. Does an electrologist receive special schooling to perform hair removal?
A. Yes! An electrologist is trained in evaluating the patient's needs as well as in operating the equipment. In Florida, furthermore, an electrologist must be licensed. Some practitioners also gain advanced credentials. I have obtained the credential of Certified Medical Electrologist, the most advanced certification offered by the State of Florida! That credential is required by the State of Florida in order for me to utilize laser equipment in my hair removal practice.
Q. Can anyone undergo hair removal treatments?
A. No! That is one of the reasons why a consultation is necessary. Before starting treatments, a review must be made of your medical history, your skin and your hair. There are other considerations as well. Some people may be candidates for electrolysis and not laser hair removal, and vice versa.
Q. Are the hair removal techniques offered effective for both men and women?
A. Yes! Through the initial consultation the method of hair removal that best suits your needs can be determined. In some instances a combination of Electrolysis and Laser hair removal may be recommended.
Q. Can one hair removal session remove all of my unwanted hair?
A. In some circumstances, such as eyebrows, electrolysis can provide the desired results in just one visit. Most commonly, though, that is not the case. And while laser hair removal treatments will clear an entire area of unwanted hair in one session, one session will not provide permanent results. The initial, free consultation will allow for an evaluation of your needs, from which a personalized plan for your hair removal needs will be established and provided to you.
Q. How often will I need to be treated?
A. The scheduling of electrolysis sessions is guided by the growth cycle of the hair in the area(s) to be treated. Growth cycles do vary from individual to individual, and from one part of the body to another. Electrolysis treatments should coincide with the occurrence of new growth. If you've been, for example, tweezing an area weekly, you should schedule a weekly electrolysis session for that area. The scheduling of laser hair removal treatments is constructed in a different fashion and there is, typically, a 6-8 week interval between sessions.
